Vmware update manager host cannot download files 6.5
An unmanaged virtual machine exists in a vCenter but is not managed in a vRealize Automation environment and cannot be viewed in the vRA portal. Once you import an unmanaged virtual machine, the virtual machine is managed by using the vRealize Automation management interface.
Log in to vRealize Automation as a fabric administrator and as a business group manager. If you are importing virtual machines that use static IP addresses, prepare a properly configured address pool. On Linux hosts, the Shared Folder Properties dialog box opens. If you specify a directory on a network share, such as D:share , Workstation always attempts to use that path.
If the directory is later connected to the host on a different drive letter, Workstation cannot locate the shared folder. Characters that the guest operating system considers illegal in a share name appear differently when viewed inside the guest. Enable the shared folder. Deselect this option to disable a shared folder without deleting it from the virtual machine configuration.
Make the shared folder read-only. When this property is selected, the virtual machine can view and copy files from the shared folder, but it cannot add, change, or remove files. Access to files in the shared folder is also governed by permission settings on the host computer. The shared folder appears in the Folders list. I've tried doing this through vCenter Server using different hosts, as well as tried using the web ui on the hosts directly i.
Have to? This configuration is not always possible, depending on network architecture, policies, security configuration, or other reasons. Often times, simply using a proxy will accommodate the requirement of getting to the Internet to download patches. But what if there is a situation, for what ever reason, that you do not want to allow the server where VMware Update Manager is running to access the Internet? I talked to a customer not too long ago about the process of patching vSphere hosts in a situation such as this.
Also, when only using the VMware vSphere CLI, it is hard to get a good graphical representation of how a host is patched. VMware Update Manager does this well.
But what if the server running VMware Update Manager is not going to be allowed online to download patches? Jason Horn posted an article on the process for vSphere 4. Not much has changed with vSphere 5. In all honesty, I have seen the umds folder for a while, but never paid much attention to it before the conversation I had with the customer. I knew it was there, but had never really looked into it. I suspect that the problem I am having is related to DNS configuration, but I would also like to check this to be sure.
In my case, the customer did not set yet the DNS. I read that in some cases it would be also possible to change the patch store from FQDN to IP address in this menu here. Though, for me is not working, the IP address is not appearing, I am only having the name.
